Could extreme attachment parent be the cause of TV star Mayim Bialik’s divorce?

Actress Mayim Bialik from the hit TV show The Big Bang Theory announced last week that she and her husband are getting a divorce.   The couple has been married for 9 years and  have two sons.

Bialik caught some flack last year when she released a book entitled ”Beyond the Sling: A Real-Life Guide to Raising Confident, Loving Children the Attachment Parenting Way which chronicled her journey in “attachment parenting”. The book gave Bialik’s account of what good parenting is.  She believes that parents should use an extreme attachment method when raising their kids.    One of the parenting methods that she believed in was co-sleeping with her children.  She and her husband believed that the benefits of sleeping with their children outweighed the risks of possible sudden infant death syndrome.

Critics bashed her when they found out that she was still breast feeding her 3 1/2 year-old son.  She responded in an L.A. Times Article last year:

”The notion that natural birth means something to the mother and the child. Breast-feeding is the natural, optimal way to feed a child. Sleeping with your child, wearing your child in a sling as opposed to pushing them around in expensive strollers, those are things that matter biologically and sociologically for the structure of a family.”

Many people are now wondering if this extreme attachment parenting method was the cause for the couple splitting up.

What do you think? Could “attachment parenting” destroy the marriage of a happy couple?
