FAMU Football Team Makes Trayvon Martin’s Father A Captain
The Florida A & M University football team has named Trayvon Martin’s father as an honorary captain after he delivered a touching speech to the team over the weekend.
Tracy Martin was invited by the teams head coach Earl Holmes who was looking to get some encouraging words for his team before the start of the upcomingseason.
Martin has been in the spotlight a lot lately after the man who killed his son Trayvon was acquitted of all charges in a Sanford, FL courtroom.
“We talked and I told him I’d love him to talk to the team. He came out and he was very, very encouraging,” Holmes said of Tracy Martin. “ . . . [He] got a standing ovation from our guys. He talked about just persevering and told the guys to keep on pushing through the hard times. The message he shared with the kids was very positive and they were very responsive.”
After meeting with the team it was announced that Martin would receive the honor of being named an honorary captain for this season’s Rattlers team. The team will be lead onto the field by Martin during it’s nationally televised season opener against Mississippi Valley State on Sept 1. Look for Martin to do the pregame coin toss when the game airs on ESPN at 11:45 am.
