A Nebraska school district is attempting to force a 3-year-old deaf boy to change the way he signs his name because they feel that the gesture resembles shooting a gun.

Grand Island Public School officials have banned Hunter Spanjer from using the standard S.E.E.(Signing Exact English) version of his name. Hunter uses a slightly different variation of the gesture when he crosses his fingers. This gives him the ability to add his own personal touch to his name.

The boy’s family is outraged that the school is attempting to kick him out for something so ridiculous. His father has submitted a letter to the school district in an attempt to get them to “reconsider their decision. He has also created a Facebook page dedicated to protesting the school’s decision.
